This year’s Golden String Drive for the Disabled took place on Friday, June 12, 2015 at Knoll Run Golf Course. Volunteers and Golfers braved the scorching 90 degree weather to give back to Golden String! 146 golfers participated in the outing and over 40 volunteers were dressed in green to put together the Biggest success Golden String has had at an outing to date.
$18,000 was donated back to Golden String this year! With the support of businesses and friends of Golden String, the Chinese Auction raised over $2,000 alone! Thank you to everyone that gave an item for the auction! Golfers participated in games throughout the course with hopes to improve their golf game. These games allowed Golden String to raise $1,200. Golfers and volunteers enjoyed refreshments provided by The Mocha House, The Royal Oaks, Pizza Joe’s in Struthers, Joe Gallagher’s Lunch Bucket, Save-a-Lot in Struthers, Seven-Up, and our friends of Golden String. Golfers and volunteers never went hungry or thirsty!
After 18 holes on the course, dinner was served in the pavilion with delicious steaks prepared by The Royal Oaks and sides prepared by our Golden String volunteers. Even though the 90 degree weather left a few with sunburn, it did not affect anyone’s generosity towards Golden String. The 1st Place team Waste-Tech Services and the 17th Place team Jim Sutman donated their prize money back, our skin game winner’s Software Specialists donated their prize money back, and our 50/50 winner Janet Hynes donated her prize money back!
